Apalah LTE, OFDMA, S-OFDMA dan MIMO?

LTE

LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a communication standard for third generation handset which is being standardized by 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project).

LTE is regarded as 3.9G (3.9 generation) standard in between 3G (Third Generation handsets) and 4G (Fourth Generation handsets). LTE employs 4G communication technology within 3G frequency band so that it enhances communication speed and frequency efficiency. LTE is assumed to be capable of downloading at 100Mbps and uploading at 50Mbps or over.

LTE will be an intermediary standard to help smooth migration from 3G to 4G.

OFDMA & SOFDMA

OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access) is a type of wireless network supported by WiMAX.

OFDMA enables multiple accesses by assigning subsets of subcarriers to individual users and achieves simultaneous low data rate transmission from several users.

Also its scalable OFDMA (Scalable OFDMA) can vary the number of subcarriers and control transmission rates and the number of individual users simultaneously. This allows to achieve steady performance by increasing the number of users at the same time lowering transmission rates.

MIMO

MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) is the use of multiple antennas for data transmissions, and also employed by WiMAX.

MIMO can simultaneously transmit different data by placing them over the same bandwidth by using multiple antennas. This can increase transmission quantity for each unit of time; therefore the transmission speed gets enhanced.

This should be regarded as one of the inevitable technologies for much faster wireless networking.
